The full moon has captivated humanity for centuries, inspiring awe and wonder. Beyond its celestial beauty, the full moon holds deep spiritual significance in various cultures and belief systems. Today, we will delve into the symbolism of the full moon and explore how to perform a full moon ritual to harness its energy.

Symbolism of the Full Moon

The full moon carries diverse spiritual meanings across different traditions. Here are some common interpretations:

  1. Illumination and Enlightenment: The full moon represents illumination and enlightenment, symbolizing the unveiling of hidden truths and insights. It is believed to shine a light on our inner selves, guiding us towards self-discovery and spiritual growth

  2. Intuition and Psychic Abilities: Many people associate the full moon with heightened intuition and psychic abilities. Some people think that during this phase, our connection to the spiritual realm is amplified, enabling us to tap into our intuitive powers more effectively

  3. Deep Emotions and Completion: The full moon represents deep emotion, completion, and spiritual growth. Emotions can be intense during the full moon. Full moon energy can manifest in different ways such as feeling creative, anxious, sensitive, or even exhausted. Focus on celebrating what you've accomplished and feel grateful for the good things in life.

  4. Releasing and Letting Go: The full moon symbolizes releasing and letting go of negative energy, emotions, and patterns that no longer serve us. It provides an opportunity for cleansing and purging, allowing us to make space for new intentions and manifestations.

Performing a Full Moon Ritual

Full moon rituals are a way to honor the moon's energy and align ourselves with its transformative power. Here is a step-by-step guide to performing a full moon ritual:

  1. Set Your Intentions: Begin by setting your intention for the ritual. Reflect on what you wish to release or manifest during this lunar cycle. Write down your intentions on a piece of paper.

  2. Create Scared Space: Find a quiet and comfortable space where you can perform your ritual undisturbed. Light candles, burn incense, or use crystals to create a sacred atmosphere. You may also choose to play soft music or use essential oils to enhance ambiance.

  3. Cleanse and Ground: Before starting the ritual, cleanse your space and yourself. You can smudge with sage or burn palo santo to purify the energy. Take a few deep breaths and visualize roots growing from your feet, grounding you to the Earth.

  4. Release and Let Go: Hold the piece of paper with your intentions and read them aloud. As you do so, visualize releasing any negative energy or patterns associated with your intentions. When you feel ready, burn the paper in a fireproof container, symbolizing the act of letting go.

  5. Meditation and Reflection: Sit quietly and meditate, allowing the full moon's energy to surround you. Reflect on the insights and guidance that may arise during this time. Journal your thoughts and emotions, capturing any messages or revelations that come to you.

  6. Express Gratitude: Express gratitude for the lessons learned and the blessings in your life. Acknowledge the full moon's energy and its role in your spiritual journey. You can do this through simple prayer, affirmation, or by speaking your gratitude aloud.

The full moon holds profound spiritual symbolism and offers us an opportunity for growth, transformation, and connection. By performing a full moon ritual, we can harness the moon's energy to release what no longer serves us and manifest our intentions. Embrace the power of the full moon and allow it to guide you on your spiritual path.

Full moon rituals can be personalized according to your beliefs and preferences. Feel free to add your own elements to the steps above to create a meaningful and powerful ritual.

Since we have an eclipse happening Monday, April 8th, I decided to add a little bit of information on what it is and why everyone wants to see it.

A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon, Sun, and the Earth align. The Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, temporarily blocking the Suns light and casting a shadow on Earth.

There're 4 different kinds of solar eclipses:

Total Solar Eclipse - A total solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the Sun. If you are observing from the center of the moons shadow when it hits Earth will experience a total eclipse.

Annular Solar Eclipse - An annular solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, but when it is at or near its farthest point from Earth. The Moon is farther away from Earth which makes it appear smaller than the Sun and does not completely cover the Sun. So, the Moon appears as a dark disk on top of a larger, bright disk, creating what looks like a ring around the Moon.

Partial Solar Eclipse - A partial solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth but they do no perfectly align like a total solar eclipse. Instead it will appear as a crescent shape. During an annular or total eclipse if your observing outside the area covered by the moon's inner shadow will see a partial solar eclipse.

Hybrid Solar Eclipse - Because Earth's surface is curved, sometimes an eclipse can shift between an annular and total solar eclipse as the Moon’s shadow moves across the globe. This is called a hybrid solar eclipse.

This photo is from the NASA website and from left to right, these photos show a total solar eclipse, an annular solar eclipse, and a partial solar eclipse. Depending on your location a hybrid eclipse appears as either a total or annular solar eclipse.

Our last Total solar eclipse was in Aug 2017 and passed over the entire continent for the first time in nearly 100 years. Aprils 8th, Total Solar Eclipse will do the same thing in the opposite direction. This makes it a rare event and people are traveling all over the world to get to a viewing location that it will pass over. A solar eclipse is a breathtaking astronomical event. It represents a moment of transformation, unity, and inner growth. We can harness it's energy to embark on a journey of self-discovery, release what no longer serves us, and align with our true essence.

Remember to always wear protective glasses to protect your eyes when viewing a solar eclipse. May the intense energy of the eclipse snd full moon illuminate your path and bring you blessings on your journey.

With love & light,

Reina Maise
